WWE 12 Road to Wrestlemania Hero Story Featuring Jacob Cass

 

It is time to go into the review for the final part of the Universe Mode for WWE 12, the hero storyline featuring one Jacob Cass, voice by former ROH and current TNA competitor Austin Aries. WWE 12 Road to Wrestlemania Hero Story Featuring Jacob Cass

 

If I accidentally call Jacob Cass “Austin Aries” or Kevin Nash “Diesel” in this storyline, I apologize in advance.

You take control of the winner of the latest season of NXT, Jacob Cass. You can customize Mr. Cass or not, but regardless he won the latest season of NXT, with Rey Mysterio as his pro.

He goes into a feud with a former NXT rookie Husky Harris. Talk about rather random. Husky Harris is joined by Wade Barrett and Justin Gabriel for Former the New Nex-Corre or something along those lines. Jacob Cass is joined by Rey Mysterio and another NXT Alumni in Daniel Bryan. This leads to a three on three match at Survivor Series, where a new General Manager is announced, that man being Kevin Nash.

Nash is bringing back a WCW Tribute Show in the form of the Clash of the Champions. Clash of the Champions was an awesome show back in the day. WCW wrestlers will be guest hosts on RAW, we have Arn Anderson show up, Animal of the LOD(with Vader being his partner for a match at the Clash), Booker T, and Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat. Also Rey Mysterio talks about his WCW past and you get to play as Eddie Guerrero in the vintage Nitro arena against Rey. Cool. Sadly we couldn’t get Tony Schiavone and hype the NWO in the second hour for that authentic Nitro feel. Jacob Cass will defeat his old rival Husky Harris and then get a match against the former five time, five time, five time, five time, five time, WCW Champion Booker T at the Clash of the Champions. However, during the main event of the Clash something bigs.

All of the ex-WCW guys show up and the Invasion starts anew. I think that they did about as best of a job as they could for not anyone who is dead or in TNA from WCW. The only guys that they might have been able to bring in as part of the WCW Invasion would be DDP and Goldberg. DDP would make the most sense as he did do business with WWE recently with the Nitro DVD. But minor nitpick and there were reasons why they went with who they did. Still you fight another handicap brawl(just when you thought it was safe to play the game), and John Cena gets destroyed and put on the shelf.

The lead up to the Royal Rumble indicates that since Cena is out, the winner of the Royal Rumble will be the World Heavyweight Champion. Cena got struck down by the forces of WCW, I find that oddly amusing. Vader also is more badass in this game that he was during his entire WWF run, destroying John Morrison with a huge choke slam, before you, that being Jacob Cass fight him. You fight some brawls, some matches, until the Royal Rumble where two new men join WCW, to take you out. Kevin Nash assists the Big Show, after you eliminate Cody Rhodes. Big Show is the new World Heavyweight Championship and he spraypaints WCW on the belt. Which is strange, as the big gold belt was their belt back in the day, but just go with it, huh. Cody Rhodes has joined WCW, due to his family ties and Big Show obviously was known as the Giant back in the day.

Brawls and then matches, with Undertaker being taken out, forcing the WWE Championship to be vacated for Elimination Chamber. Rey acts like he will turn to join WCW, but it’s a swerve. So we’re up to Russo era WCW now. Show propels Rey through the announcer’s table. Should have thrown him into a trailer but there is no shortage of mythology gags in this game regarding WCW to begin with. Jacob Cass is in Elimination Chamber, beating Vader, but you have to fight all of the WCW guys. It’s like Money in the Bank in the Outsider story all over again! Triple H returns to make the save, after teasing joining WCW but it’s another swerve and Nash has been fired and HHH is the General Manager of RAW and Smackdown now. Elimination Chamber as some swaps, with Nash and Booker the only WCW guys with Edge, Sheamus, and naturally our hero of the day, Jacob Cass. Oh and that mystery competitor.

The Big Show gets involved(having faked an injury), and slips Nash a crowbar, with Nash using it to great effect. Rey Mysterio is the mystery competitor in this match and he turns on Cass to join WCW in a shocking swerve. He pins Cass and then….FINGER POKE OF DOOM! Nash goes down and Rey pins him. They he spraypaints the belt, which I admit, the WWE Spinner Title being spraypainted looks rather strange but whatever.

So it is now time for the road to Wrestlemania, where it leads to Triple H and Jacob Cass, the final hope for WWE, taking on Kevin Nash and Rey Mysterio from WCW, with RAW being on the line, for one year, against the championship belts. Naturally Jacob Cass, six months ago, an NXT rookie, has the entire fate of WWE partially in his hands, but no pressure or anything. And he’s not ready for it, according to Triple H. Well thanks for the positive reinforcement, Hunter. Nash’s trusty crowbar allows them to score the win and WCW wins and the ring has been spraypainted with Nitro. WWE has been struck down and the credits roll?

But don’t turn off the game right yet…because we’re not quite done. Quite the non standard game ending pulled by THQ with that one. Nitro is live, but Triple H vows to not make it so for long. In fact, all of the cards will be put on the table, double or nothing, winner take all match, a twelve man hell in a cell match, six man from WCW vs. six men from WWE.

You know, we might as well just call it War Games because that’s the closest we’re going to get to it with WWE.

Cass is not really popular in the locker room due to his bungling at Wrestlemania, but he has a chance to prove himself. There are more handicap brawls, because we all know how much this game loves those and the final battle ground between WWE vs. WCW.

Too bad WWE couldn’t spring money to get Michael Buffer to do the ring announcing for this final match in the game for old time’s sake, but just a minor quibble.

We have Team WCW, of Big Van Vader, Road Warrior Animal, The Big Show, Rey Mysterio, Booker T, and Kevin Nash against Team WWE of Triple H, Sheamus, John Cena, Jacob Cass, and the big boss himself, Mr. McMahon. It is an epic encounter, for the entire world to see but it is at Starrcade.

And they did not have just any Starrcade arena for this one. It’s the Starrcade arena straight out of WCW/NWO Revenge. I’m marking out, bro!

Match is awesome, and its down to Kevin Nash against Jacob Cass and Mr. McMahon. We see one of the most brutal things ever in a WWE video game, as Nash beats the 60 year old Vince McMahon half to death with a crowbar and beats him. Then it’s down to you, Jacob Cass, against Kevin Nash, the fate of WWE is in the balance right inside Hell In a Cell.

The final brawl is epic and I won’t spoil it for you, but needless to say, it’s obvious that Kevin Nash would never take that bump in a million years without shattering into a million pieces upon impact. The end of Road to Wrestlemania Hero Story is amazing but no rookie would ever in fifteen hundred million years ever get a push like that straight out of the gate.

Regardless, this captured the true spirit of many eras of WCW. It had everything, from the NWO Insanity to the destruction that was Vader to the Finger Poke of Doom to the inane Vince Russo like swerves to a nod to the best WCW video game ever released(even if it might not be intentional). The Road to Wrestlemania Hero Story for WWE 12 is my favorite mode and…screw it, 10/10. That is my own biased opinion but hey it’s my review. WCW and Austin Aries, what’s not to like?
