How Often You Should Water Plants in Your Garden
Water on the other hand, that is something that you can help with a little bit. Rainwater is better for plants but there will be times where it may be weeks in between rainfall. Therefore, we must answer one simple question. Exactly how often should you water your plants? Well it really does depend on how hot it gets outside. Like people, plants drink their water more when its rather fast. During the hottest days, you can saturate the ground completely in the morning and it may be bone dry by about three in the afternoon. So how often should you water your garden?
First its important to know that its not healthy for your plants to water them when there is sun on the garden. It burns them up. With that fact in mind, the absolute maximum time you should wait in between watering your garden is three days, with temperatures of fifty to sixty degrees or below that point. When it gets up to sixty degrees to about seventy degrees, you should water it every two days. Seventy to eight degrees, every single day. Barring any rain of course. When it gets up around ninety or more on a regular basis, you might consider watering the garden twice a day, once in the early morning and once in the evening. Your plants will thank you, when the rain is far between.
There are certain crops that like more water than others, like cabbage, peppers, and green beans. So be sure to give those plants if you have them an extra big drink. Rain water is preferred, but there will be times where you have to get out the hose or the watering can and go and water the garden. At the most three days, at the very least twice a day when its really hot with no rain, is when you should water your garden.
