Batman the Animated Series Episode 44 Day of the Samurai
You know what this episode was. Better than the last one, I’ll tellyou that much. Let’s head to the review.
Kyodai Ken is back, you know the Ninja, last appearing on the Night of the Ninja and he wants revenge. Bruce Wayne, Batman, it doesn’t matter, they’re both one and the same, so that’s what he’s going to get. It does make sense, as any trained fighter will study their opponent’s fighting style and no two people fight the exact same way. So the Ninja deduced that Bruce Wayne and Batman are the same guy.
So the nasty ninja kidnaps the prized pupil of Yoru Sensei, the man who trained Bruce Wayne. The ninja offers a deal, he would make a trade, the girl, Kairi, for location to the scrolls teaching a deadly fighting technique. Batman tries to trick the Ninja but the Ninja is crafty and takes the map leading to the cave with the scrolls for Batman.
So Kyodai Ken finds the scrolls with the touch of death, but the scrolls being old crumble into nothing. But a piece that is mostly intactdescribes the move that he needs, a touch that causes instant death, a touch of death if you will. Without that piece of the scroll, there is no way of figuring out where the blow is.
After Alfred is kidnapped as bait, Batman and Kyodai Ken fight to the death, without masks, right near an active volcano. The touch of death is used but it doesn’t work. As it turns out, Batman studied a practice dummy and armored the spot in his costume. Oh you clever, Bat. Ken loses his balance and refuses to allow Batman to save him, thus disappearing into the smoke, ash, and lava of the erupting volcano, never to be seen again. This is the last time we see the Ninja in the DCAU, so he might as well be dead.
It does appear that Yoru-Sensei has figured out that his old pupil Bruce Wayne and Batman are one and the same but it’s never stated.
A fairly decent episode, let’s slap a 6.5/10 rating on this one and head on home.
